KKDİK REGISTRATION RESPONSIBILITY FOR SUBSTANCES PURCHASED FROM THE TURKISH DOMESTIC MARKET
Content addition date : 14-05-2025
The Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (KKDİK) Regulation was enacted in Turkey to control the impact of chemical substances on human health and the environment. Under this regulation, companies that meet certain conditions have chemical substance registration obligations.
So, if you purchase a substance from the Turkish market, are you responsible for its KKDİK registration?
No. According to the regulation, companies that manufacture or import a chemical substance in quantities of 1 ton or more per year are responsible for registering that substance. If you purchase a substance from a supplier within Turkey, you are considered a downstream user. In this case, the responsibility for KKDİK registration lies with your supplier, not with you.
However, downstream users also have certain obligations. It is important for your business to operate in compliance with the regulation by following KKDİK-compliant Safety Data Sheets (SDS), taking necessary precautions for the safe use of chemicals, and ensuring that your supplier has completed the KKDİK registration. Additionally, you may need to check whether the chemical you intend to use is subject to any restrictions or authorization under KKDİK.
Therefore, while companies purchasing chemical substances from suppliers in Turkey do not have direct registration obligations, they must still fulfil specific responsibilities under the regulation. To effectively manage the KKDİK compliance process, it is recommended that you maintain regular communication with your supply chain and stay informed about relevant legal requirements.
